What is Emergency lighting:


Emergency lighting is a life safety System which is mandatory in every public premises. It provides light from a back up battery when normal lighting fails and helps to provide safe exit with the use of emergency exit signage. Emergency lighting systems should last at least over 3 hours for evacuation of building and to provide Emergency services enough light to deal with the situation in a building. In compliance with I.S.:3217:2013


Emergency Lighting Systems and Design we specialise in:


  • Self-contained- where the battery emergency control gear and lamp is in the light fitting ( most popular and cost efficient)
  • Central Battery system- is a bank of battery’s when the power goes out the unit feeds the emergency lights through a static inverter
  • Central generator power- which depends on the generator change over switch in the event of a power failure


Design and install emergency lighting system

  • Testing and Maintenance
  • Testing emergency lighting systems requirements are that a central test unit is required to test the emergency lights by disconnecting the emergency permanent feed via a N/C contactor to the luminaire’s so the luminaires are backed up by the battery
  • The CTU has two test functions 30 min and 3hr
  • 3hr testing is done annually to ensure battery’s last 3hr and over (1 test annually)
  •  30 min testing is done every 3 months (3 test annually)
  • A report should be produced and kept for the contractor and client
  • Emergency lighting repairs should be carried out on any light that failed on testing
  • A certificate is given to the client annually on completion of emergency lighting test once every emergency light is working.
  • Keeping in compliance safety regulations I.S.:3217:2013
